Author: Radojko LUKIC

Abstract

It is well known that there is a special system of indicators for measuring efficiency, productivity and performance of trade adjusted to the very nature of business. As a part of it, the significance of profit per employee is stressed as a contemporary measure of trade performance. It is quite understandable considering the high share of labour force in trade and the possibility of its substitution with the modern technology. This work analyses the specifics and factors of the profit per employee dynamics in trade of Serbia and selective global retail chains, first of all - developed market economies. On the base of research results, we propose measures for increasing profit per employee in trade of Serbia in the future.

Authors: Adi Eleonor TRIFU, Adriana GÎRNEAȚĂ, Ana Mădălina POTCOVARU

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to show the impact of regulation upon the start up of new businesses in the European Union. The study uses some of the components of the Ease doing business index elaborated by the World Bank. The methods used are the correlation analysis and ordinary least squares for an unbalanced data panel with 26 cross-sections (European Union member states) and time periods from 2005 to 2012. The regression equation is composed of one dependent variable, represented by the New Business Registration Density per 1000 people and 18 independent variables gathered from components of Ease of Doing Index. The results of this research show that the influence of regulatory factors is very strong. This paper is addressed to entrepreneurs, managers of public institution, specialists and all interested readers.

New Management Tools – From Video Management Systems to Business Decision Systems

Author: Emilian Cristian IRIMESCU, Cristian Silviu BANACU

Abstract

In the last decades management was characterized by the increased use of Business Decision Systems, also called Decision Support Systems. More than that, systems that were until now used in a traditional way, for some simple activities (like security,) migrated to the decision area of management. Some examples are the Video Management Systems from the physical security activity. This article will underline the way Video Management Systems passed to Business Decision Systems, which are the advantages of use thereof and which are the trends in this industry. The article will also analyze if at this moment Video Management Systems are real Business Decision Systems or if there are some functions missing to rank them at this level.

Author: Dr. Dharmendra MEHTA, Er. Sunayana SONI, Dr. Naveen K MEHTA, Dr. Rajesh K MEHTA

Abstract

Benchmarking can be defined as a process through which practices are analyzed to provide a standard measurement (‘benchmark’) of effective performance within an organization (such as a university/institute). Benchmarking is also used to compare performance with other organizations and other sectors. As management education is passing through challenging times so some modern management tool like benchmarking is required to improve the quality of management education and to overcome the challenges ahead. Benchmarking the one management education institute against other management institute allows the University to get a sense of where it is performing well in relation to others. This paper makes an attempt to study various practices related to benchmarking of management education in Indian Management Institutions to enhance quality of management education.

Relevant Studies to Public Transportation at an International Level

Author: Alexandru BUGHEANU

Abstract

The present study examines the high interest for public transport research at an international level.
The main objective of the current paper is to present a series of effective models of improvement in term of overall quality or efficiency for the public transport system, as well as directly relevant research to the public network transport in Bucharest City.
The key findings of this study is that in order to improve the smooth functioning of a public transport network should be taken into consideration several fundamental issues: the transport operators, the network users and the quality of services.
It is particularly important that one of the main objectives for any public transport operators to be a constant interest for providing quality services, knowing the users’ expectations and the continued development of the system in terms of its effectiveness and efficiency.
This paper examines the urban public transport of passengers as one of the effective solutions for reducing urban agglomerations and the extremely high number of private and personal vehicles used every day in large urban areas.

The Long Way of Organizational Communication in Tourism: From Theory to Practice

Authors: Cristina STATE

Abstract

Organizational communication has become a topic on which increasingly more specialists express their views. Very few succed, however, to move from theory to practice, so that their attempt to be beneficial to it. Moreover, as a proverb (anonymously) very well reveals, "... we communicate increasingly more, but we understand increasingly less" ... In this context, based on available statistics (which surprised and confused us in equal measure) I aimed to analyze the extent to which beneficiaries of tourism units’ services are satisfied with the correspondence between their offer and the reality on the ground. Methodological, I turned in a first step to crowdsourcing. This is an alternative to get, as a result of outsourcing, required services and/or ideas by seeking contributions from large groups of people and/or communities turning to online resources and not to traditional employees or suppliers. This is the context in which I launched through a website accessible to all willing to participate in our research, a questionnaire aiming to evaluate the quality of organizational communication from tourism facilities. In a second step, I proceeded to the interpretation of the received responses checking, econometrically, through analysis of variance (ANOVA), the research hypotheses. Basically, I investigated the existing biunivocal relationship between the tourism facilities and the beneficiaries of their services, in order to identify and improve some external organizational communication trends, potentially generating performance effects as a direct result of improving customer relationship management.
At the end of the work I formulated two proposals designed to reveal how and in what way can be reduced the distance (still huge) that separates managerial theory from the practice of customer relationship in the tourism, hospitality and leisure industry.

The Role of Monetary and Fiscal Policies in Ensuring Macroeconomic Stability in Romania

Authors: Ana-Maria SĂNDICĂ

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to make an analysis of the dynamics of macroeconomic mechanisms of propagation of shocks in the Romanian economy based on a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model (DSGE) that is based on optimizing behaviour of economic agents, using micro-foundations incorporating nominal rigidities in prices and wages. The model developed is Neo-Keynesian type model and is described based on the Christiano et al (2005) and Smets and Wouters (2003). It incorporates persistence in consumption, sticky prices and wages in Calvo sense, costs of adjustment of investment, variable capacity utilization and fixed costs in production. The model takes into account also the liquidity constraints consumers - rule of thumb, element introduced by Galí et al (2007). Another assumption of the model is the consideration of imports as an input in production, under the approach of McCallum and Nelson (2001). Changes over the standard dynamic stochastic equilibrium are related to inflation inertia generated by the learning process. An innovative element is the consideration of two monetary regimes considering adopting inflation targeting strategy in Romania in August 2005. Structural break is explicitly considered by considering two sub-samples and the estimation process of parameters is in two stages similar to the approach proposed by Jakab (2008).

Employment Pattern, Skills and Training Issues among Informal Sector Workers in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

Author: Sanjay RODE

Abstract

An informal sector in any economy provides different kinds of employment opportunities to people. In Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the female are more involved in regular jobs as compare to the causal and self-employed workers. The secondary and college studied male and female are found more in regular jobs. The high school studied male and illiterate female are working on causal jobs. The causal jobs do not require more education and skills. In self-employed category, the secondary school studied male and high school studied female are found more. The monthly income of workers involved in regular jobs is much higher than the causal and self-employed workers. The moderate malnourished females are found more as compare to the male in causal and self-employed category. The multi nominal logit regression model shows that the causal workers have positive correlation with illiterate male but it is negatively co-related with high school studied male, illiterate and secondary studied female. The monthly income, source of water, refrigerator and condom use is negatively co-related with causal workers as compare to regular workers. The self-employed workers have negative co-relation with monthly wage, source of water and watch cinema regularly as compare to the regular workers. Therefore government must provide infrastructural facilities in all slums of region. The infrastructural facilities such as water supply, electricity, sewage and solid waste collection must be provided in all slums of region. Causal workers must be provided the vocational training to start their own business. Commercial and co-operative banks must provide loans to poor people of slums. Females must be encouraged to take loan and start small business. Government must provide low cost housing to causal and self-employed workers in region. Such policies will certainly improve standard of living of informal sector workers in region.

Lean Six Sigma Strategy at Work: Ups, Downs and Lessons Learned From Implementation - A Literature Review

Author: Georgiana CIOANĂ, Cătălina RADU

Abstract

Research work on Lean, Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma has become increasingly present in the literature in the field of operations management and business excellence and has extended to other areas as the need for process improvement is more prominent. Whether it analyzes theoretical aspects regarding the development and the evolution of the two methodologies or of the most recent merge between the two, known as Lean Six Sigma strategy or simply Lean Sigma, or it presents results of studies undertaken in different industry or service sectors, the knowledge provided by the articles, books or studies currently available is vital to all researchers, specialists in the field and to all businesses. In this consideration we propose a detailed review of the most significant findings drawn from studies concerning the evaluation of the performance of Lean Six Sigma strategy as pure theory or as evidence from organizations performed in the time-frame 2003 to 2014 that seeks to underline the lessons learned from implementation and to question what is to be done in future researches.

FDI Convergence versus Real and Structural Convergence at the EU Level. An Approach Based on the GINI Coefficient

Author: Vasile Alecsandru STRAT, Oana Cristina POPOVICI

Abstract

The main goal of this paper is to analyze the evolution of disparities registered among the European Union member states for several variables, indicating the real convergence, the structural convergence and the stocks of FDI. The paper provides an assessment of the linkage between these evolutions during 1993 to 2013, using a methodology based on time series of Gini coefficients, at the entire Union and also at the level of the new and the old EU member states. We found decreasing disparities in the stocks of FDI/capita, GDP/capita and GDP/capita produced in agriculture for the new member states, but oscillating evolutions for the old ones. We found evidence suggesting a positive relationship among these three phenomena. Therefore, FDI can be considered as an enhancer for both real and structural convergence in the EU and the new EU member states. The finding was not confirmed for the old member states.

The Hare and the Tortoise. How Older Generations Are Replaced By Young One on the Labour Market: Signals and Insights from the Relationship between Shadow Economy and Active Ageing

Author: Adriana AnaMaria DAVIDESCU, Catalin Corneliu GHINARARU

Abstract

The paper aims to analyze the relationship between the size of Romanian shadow economy expressed as % of official GDP and active ageing in order to see if the shadow economy represents a social buffer for active ageing phenomena using Granger causality analysis.
The size of Romanian shadow economy is estimated previously using a revised version of the currency demand approach based on autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach to cointegration analysis.
Using Granger causality tests, we examine the relationship between employment rate for older people and the size of Romanian shadow economy covering the period between 2000 and 2010.
The empirical results revealed the existence of a long-run unidirectional causality that runs shadow economy to employment rate for elderly and do not support the existence of any short-run relationship between employment rate for older people and shadow economy.
