Between continents, between religions, between the wars or about the culture and management in Israel

Author: Amedeo ISTOCESCU

Abstract

Situated at the crossroads of three continents (Europe, Asia and Africa), deeply marked by the omnipresence religions book's (Christianity, Judaism, Islamism) and ground by the war (with the Palestinians, with neighbors, with anti-Semitic terrorist organizations, often with everyone), Israel is both strongly in the military, but fragile in terms of social, streaked by rivers and miraculous „seas", but seized by the wilderness and uninhabited areas, with an endless history, but always with blood-strained wounds, with an economy outside of time, but with an efficient management often of foreign origin. Article presents a part of the cultural-historical and economic-social characteristics which strongly influences the economy and management of this small country, but essential to the world the third millennium.

Economic effectiveness of activities of vegetable growers' associations in Serbia

Authors: Claudiu CICEA, Jonel SUBIĆ, Sanjin IVANOVIĆ

Abstract

Taking into account that agriculture is one of the most important parts of economy of Republic of Serbia, it is necessary to pay special attention to its improvement. One of ways to significantly incentive agricultural development is formation of farmers' associations, primarily because Serbian agricultural production is based at small family farms. It is very important to form such associations among vegetable producers, because they are small scale producers and encounter many problems in business operations. Thus, the paper deals with economic effects which are possible to achieve for small farmers by involving in growers' associations. Farmers who are members of associations have an opportunity to sale their products to big retail chains, as well to export vegetables, and get higher price for their products. Along with income improvement, they may reduce production costs and sale costs. Consequently, membership in growers' associations provides higher profit for small family farms. Analysis showed that associations should primarily take care about relation with their customers, because changes of vegetable prices could increase farmers' profit more than costs reduction. To achieve their goals such associations need serious state support, as well as support from various other organizations.

Transaction cost analysis in redeveloping indigenous lands in Malaysia

Authors: I. OMAR, W. DJURJANI, N. D. PRIJONO

Abstract:

Land supply constraints restrict the flow of land supply onto the land market for development purposes. It disturbs the effectiveness of the land market. As a result, the underutilized area may become derelict and needs regeneration as part of urban renewal programs. The study begins with discussion on transaction costs within institutional economics analysis. In particular, the review on literature concentrates on the elements of land supply constraints with the purpose to feed the empirical analysis in the case study areas. Empirically, the study investigates sources of land supply constraints in the case study area of MAS Kampong Baru, Kuala Lumpur. Data were gathered using interviews with landowners of undeveloped and developed sites to examine why they had taken effort to develop or simply abandoned their lands undeveloped. Analysis had been undertaken using qualitative techniques on respondents using coding, either direct or indirect quotations. Landowner respondents were taken randomly to represent predetermined zones within the case study areas. Data analysed were presented in the forms of charts, histograms, diagrams and illustrations to ease discussion. One of the main findings is that landowners were unwilling to undertake redevelopment due to land supply constraints as revealed by transaction cost embedded within their status of landownership, attitudes, physical, planning and valuation or market constraints. In the end, the findings enable various interested parties to realize their roles and responsibilities in their future directions to redevelop Kampong Baru in Kuala Lumpur.

Improving productivity and welfare among workers of small and household textile and garment units in India

Author: Sanjay RODE

Abstract

Global Production System has changed remarkably over the period of time. In order to cope up with the change in the nature and type of production, the small and household garment and textile units are employing the younger and skilled labor force. The workers in these units are employed on the contract, causal and temporary basis. They are not given the different benefits as applicable to the large scale unit workers. Such workers are employed more hours and weekly holidays are not given to them. The small and household units are simply maximizing their interest and profit. Such capitalist nature of productive activities makes the labor worse. They are given less wages and classified as unskilled workers. Workers are not given proper training and security of work by these units. Their access to productive assets and standard of living is low as compare to the large unit's workers. In order to improve the workers conditions, minimum wage should be given to all workers in small and household units. Such units must maintain their annual records of transactions. Small and household units must send their workers for compulsory training. Work place environment, minimum hours of work are required to regulate in these sectors. Immediate steps will have positive impact on workers earning and standard of living. It will help for further productivity enhancement.

NGO field workers in Pakistan

Author: Muhammad Haroon SIDDIQUE

Abstract

NGOs came into the society in their present form after World War II and more precisely in 1960s. Before that also different forms of philanthropy existed. Like elsewhere in the world, in Pakistan also state and the market were the two sectors catering for different needs of the people. When foreign funding started coming into the poor countries, the channel of NGOs was considered more appropriate including the fact they had roots in the society and the benefit could reach the far flung areas. NGO field workers are the real actors in the NGOs' activities but sadly the NGOs those raise the slogans of working for the destitute do not bother to facilitate the NGO field workers. Eventually the NGO field workers are facing problems of job insecurity, poor salary structure, unhealthy working environment and even harassment especially in case of women NGO field workers in Pakistan.

Career in the bank for collection  in times of financial crisis

Author: Ioana Florentina BUDU

Abstract

Staffing a collection call centre, in a period of crisis, requires more than hiring the most qualified applicants. Collection managers must define a recruiting, hiring and staffing plan to meet inbound call service levels and maximize outbound calling during optimal customer contact times, usually on nights and weekends. Job candidates who have prior telephone job experience, especially in telemarketing or customer service, have proven to be successful collectors because of their skill sets and experience. Screening collectors through testing has proven to be a reliable tool to assist managers in the selection process. Staffing the call centre operation with the right balance between full time and part time collectors will assist in meeting department targets. There are many creative ways to schedule collectors to cover all the required hours. Management must be prepared to offset ‘irregular' staffing hours, especially on nights and weekends, with incentive, perks and benefits so they can recruit and retain a reliable staff to place outbound calls during the best times to reach the customer. A consistent hiring policy that is constantly evaluated and improved will help reduce turnover by recruiting and staffing the most qualified collectors for the job

Factors for a successful sales force during the corporate life cycle

Authors: Adrian Gelu LUPU, Felicia Adriana LUPU

Abstract

The organisations, like all living organisms, have a lifecycle and undergo very predictable and repetitive patterns of behaviour as they grow and develop. Although companies devote considerable time and money to managing their sales forces, few focus much on how the sale forces needs to change over the life cycle of an organisation. In this article, the authors explain how, at each stage, company can best tackle the relevant issues and get the most out of their sales forces, how to develop the best sales force structures for each of the four stages of the business life cycle. Specifically, companies must alter four factors over time: the roles that the sales force and selling partners play, the size of the sales force, the sales force's degree of specialization, and how salespeople apportion their efforts among different customers, products and activities.

Using marketing in Romanian libraries. Study case: The Romanian National Library

Author: Ruxandra Irina POPESCU

Abstract

Nowadays, marketing has become a central part of libraries' interest worldwide. Their motivation is varied: the missions of organizations have lost compatibility with market demand, budgets are low, while their units require more funds, the increase in the competition for funding, the harsh competition between service suppliers, etc. Furthermore, the Western world understood the necessity of library marketing for reasons like: the support offered in library management, the focus on consumers, the capacity of attracting consumers to use libraries, the improvement of the organization's image. Despite all that, most Romanian libraries do not understand the part played by marketing in the library or in the information service, as well as its usefulness in day-to-day activities. The purpose of this essay is to present the importance of marketing in the National Romanian Library's activity.

Authors: Florica BADEA, Eugen BURDUS

Abstract

If so far, the production of scale had its established methods, we now are present to diversification of the production and to the decreasing of the series of the manufacturing. It implies the using of such methods which allow to get a high efficiency. In this case, we consider that the Lean management method is a successful one, with remarkable results in the field of the production organization. The basis principle consists in the decreasing of the costs of those activities which do not add value to the manufactured products. To answer the demands of this principle, the enterprise will adopt a strategy of elimination of the waste by the diminution of the defaults, of the equipment interruptions, of the stocks of completed product etc.

Authors: Claudiu CICEA, Gheorghe ALEXANDRU

Abstract

Sociological reflection on medicine and health is based, on the one hand, on the multidimensional reality of the „health" phenomenon and on the other hand, on the old sense of sociology which is, according to its founders, a science of welfare and human freedom. In this respect, the problems posed by the collective management of life and death, of suffering and health, have entered into sociological thoughts even before the medical sociology. In the present paper the authors examine issues related to significant social perspectives on health and disease and the factors that influence health degree.

Risk management in the entrepreneurship in Romania in the context of the economic crisis

Author: Felicia Adriana LUPU

Abstract

The future of business depends, in a determinant way, on the manner in which the companies have the risk under control. In businesses, risk management entails organized activity to manage uncertainty and threats and involves people following procedures and using tools in order to ensure conformance with risk-management policies. In practice, balancing between risks with a high probability of occurrence but lower loss versus a risk with high loss but lower probability of occurrence can often be very difficult. Risk management also faces difficulties allocating resources. Resources spent on risk management could have been spent on more profitable activities. Again, ideal risk management minimizes spending while maximizing the reduction of the negative effects of risks. This paper presents the possibilities and the limits of the risk management implementation in the entrepreneurship in Romania in the context of the economic crisis, starting from the concept

Pro-active environmental strategies - main source of competitive advantage within economic organizations

Authors: Oana-Catalina TĂPURICA, Florin TACHE

Abstract

Nowadays, contemporary organizations within Romanian economic environment are striving to reach the environmental and quality performance standards set up by the European Union, concerning the environmental protection and preservation. Under these circumstances, the organizations are highly recommended, especially those operating in high environmental impact economic sectors, to develop and implement proactive environmental strategies, as a main source to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage on the market. Developing such strategic instruments is more and more important as long as the reactive environmental strategies tend to become counter-performing within a challenging, dynamic and equilibrated competitive environment, which better describes the knowledge-based society.

Main factors influencing the production of biofuels in Romania

Author: Alin Paul OLTEANU

Abstract

Despite the considerable progress achieved by Romania in regenerative energies, especially for the hydro energy, the energy production from biomass still has a great unused potential compared with other EU countries. The interest for biomass has increased over the last years in the EU also in the context of biofuels for the transport sector and has lead to a series of strategic choices to increase their use in the economy. Biofuel production in Romania is at a low level compared with other more developed countries like Germany or France. Thus, outlining the country profile of Romania from the perspective of a national production of biofuels becomes imperative for the integration in the EU market and the development of a new industrial branch, with high growth rates and a positive impact on other economic branches (e.g. agriculture). The present study aims at laying the foundation for a strategic analysis of the biofuels production in Romania. In this regard different factors with a direct impact on the sustainable biofuels production were identified and analyzed. For the purpose of this study information from various reports, issued by both governmental and non-governmental bodies from Romania and internationally, were used.
